The largest challenge to open access (OA) research is lack of awareness of the authors about OA. There is misunderstanding regarding OA journals as researchers recognize them as predatory ones. Additionally, there is mis concept stating that OA journals are of questionable quality and poor peer reviewing. According to my personal perspectives as an associate editor and higher educator; we need to increase awareness of the researchers by developing capacity building program that is competence based or entrustable professional activities based with effective program evaluation.
